A cuppa with… interior designer, Samantha Johnson from Stag Interiors

In the latest instalment of the “cuppa with” series, we have a brew with Samantha Johnson, the interior designer from Stag Interiors, which is based on High Street West…

Tell us about your business, service or endeavour… What makes your business unique?

Stag Interiors is the brainchild of Leigh Beaumont and Jason Jarratt. They are skilled tradesmen who worked individually here in the Glossopdale valley for a number of years. When they began working together, they discovered that they shared a passion for traditional workmanship and professional customer service.

Stag was born out of a desire to provide our customers with truly bespoke, high quality, furniture; manufactured locally and fitted by professionals you could count on. We opened our showroom on the high street in August 2020, in the hopes of creating a showcase for our good work. So many retailers have disappeared online and pushed their customer service into call centres; we wanted to provide our clients with a brick-and-mortar base and a friendly face behind the desk.

Our primary focus is on kitchen and bedroom furniture, but we are problem solvers by nature. Give us your weird and wonderful design challenges!  From initial concept to fitting the finished furniture in your home, we work alongside our customers to ensure every expectation is met.

How do you feel about the future of the town and what would you like to see happen in Glossop?

We are proud to say that we are located on High Street West. This end of the high street has been ripe for development for some time. Without the high overheads associated with a large network of showrooms, we can offer the same high quality as the leading brands at a better price.

Parking is available out front and more is available just a short walk around the corner from The Globe pub. We are lucky enough have a double fronted shop. Our new neighbour’s “Oceans” Fish and Chips have done wonders for the crowd of folks sneaking a peak in the window whilst they wait for their chippy dinner.

The housing market in Glossop is growing, bringing in new faces and presenting us with the opportunity to furnish the newly built neighbourhoods. Curiously, lock down seems to have had a positive effect on our industry. Something about being inside has inspired a lot of people to make those long considered home improvements.

What inspires you about Glossop?

We’re local! Although the showroom is a new addition, the members of our team have been based in Glossop for over 20 years. We recognise the value of customer recommendations and take pride in earning our five star “Trusted Trader” reputation.

We also recognise the value of community. This area has a wealth of talented retailers and craftsmen at its fingertips. There really is no need to travel into Manchester to find innovative design and fantastic workmanship.

Could you recommend to our readers three local businesses that you love and why?

We have purposefully developed a symbiotic relationship with many of the hard-working high street retailers. We know that we can rely on the Sewing Box to provide our clients with top notch upholstery. The same can be said, for the crew at One stop plumbing. David Woods has been a source of appliances for donkeys’ years, and the ladies at Décor 8 are quick with a paint sample or two. We really are spoiled for choice!
