Glossop Singing Studio provides expert vocal tuition for all ages and abilities in a fun and supportive teaching environment. Whether you are new to singing and want to discover your singing voice, or an experienced artist wanting to further develop your technique and expand repertoire (or anywhere in between!), Glossop Singing Studio is for you.

Glossop Singing Studio is run by Claire Surman, a professional singer and fully qualified teacher with over 25 years of working in the music and theatre industry at the highest level. Whilst a classical soprano herself, Claire has experience of many styles of music, including opera, classical, musical theatre and pop. Whatever your background and interest, Claire encourages a healthy approach to voice production. By working on breathing, support and voice placement, she helps her students to develop a solid technique, freeing the voice and enabling it to develop naturally. Claire also works with students on specific performance issues such as communicating emotion, managing and overcoming anxiety, and building self-confidence.

From her studio in central Glossop, Claire offers one-to-one coaching both in person, and now also online via zoom. As well as having students who are singing purely for fun, Claire also helps students prepare for auditions, performances, recordings, and entrance auditions for drama schools, performing arts colleges and conservatoires. A large number of Claire's students also undertake practical singing exams. Students are able to follow syllabuses in classical, pop and/or music theatre, and achieve qualifications offered by a number of examining bodies. With Claire's guidance, students have achieved excellent results at all levels, from her beginners taking their Grade 1 all the way up to, and including, diplomas. Claire also helps those undertaking GCSE and A Level Music and Drama, supporting them with the practical element of those courses.

In addition to singing coaching, Claire also provides coaching for the spoken voice for those undertaking public speaking and theatrical performances.

Claire visits venues in the community, providing vocal coaching for choirs, schools, theatre groups and music groups, adjudication for competitions and music and drama festivals, and giving public masterclasses and workshops.
