Glossop is a beautiful High Peak market town that benefits from being situated close to Manchester – a city well known globally for its creative successes – as well as its stunning rural backdrop of the Pennines and the Peak District. Glossop has a vibrant, independent offer and a growing community of creatives.
The Glossop Creates campaign aims to empower Glossop’s creative community to come together, create ideas and lead the change it wants to see. We are committed to creating opportunities that support local creative and independent businesses to address shared challenges through collaboration and partnership work with local organisations and the local authority.
Our new website has been created to introduce local residents and visitors to Glossop’s creative community – including local artists, writers, musicians, designers, chefs and makers – and promote Glossop as a creative, vibrant town which promotes wellbeing and creates opportunities to engage in cultural activities.
Following consultation with local businesses during summer 2020, it was clear there was a need to support local creative and independent businesses and individuals in Glossop by raising awareness of the talent and skills in our town, boosting business success and sustaining local employment. The new Glossop Creates website brings these businesses together to enable them to grow and thrive as a community.
As well as providing a central hub for the creative community, our website, social media and online map also provide a useful guide for residents and visitors; showcasing Glossop’s talented independents, championing creativity and bolstering their business successes by showcasing their products and services, and signposting where consumers can purchase goods and services. Every business is a star in its own right, and every one is given a place to shine with its own profile.
All campaigns require people and businesses to take action for a better future! Our campaign values include:
Claire Tymon
Claire is passionate about creative-led placemaking projects, finding ways and creating opportunities for artists and creatives to make their town or city be a more successful and sustainable place. After working in different places, Claire thought it time to support her own town with a project designed to bring the creative community together to lead the change it wants to see for Glossop.
Ant Bullivant
Antony is a freelance graphic designer and marketer. After spending 15 years living in Glossop but working in various comms and marketing roles for a multinational transport organisation, he has spent the past three years building his own business here in Glossop. Through starting his own business he has found more opportunities to become more immersed in the local community while serving local businesses and those further afield. Antony hopes to see Glossop Creates bring the local creative and business community together even more and promote all that is good about Glossop.
Eve Deasy
Eve Deasy is a Glossop and Manchester-based independent PR consultant and content writer, with 20 years experience in working with large and small lifestyle and consumer brands.
Alex Nelson
Alex heads up the creative team for BBC Research and Development, and has worked in digital innovation for the last 20 years. Much of his work is done in partnership with both international and local creative and technical talent.
Carole Haines
Carole is a long time supporter of the arts; she enjoys working with artists and some years ago co-ran a local gallery. Caroles’ own practice is in textiles and occasionally she ventures into the market place to sell. Carole is really excited by the Glossop Creates project and its potential to bring together the creative communities in our town.
Richard Tymon
Rich is a Glossop-based freelance photographer who delivers work locally, regionally and nationally. Rich works with a range of clients from local independents to international brands, as well as collaborating with artists and arts organisations. Because of the importance to find ways to support Glossop’s local businesses and peers at this difficult time, Rich is pleased to support the creation of the Glossop Creates website with his photography.
Steven Dexter
Steven comes from a varied background in the arts, from managing music venues in Manchester to working in community arts centres, arts logistics companies and set painting for films. He currently also works on the curatorial team at Yorkshire Sculpture Park and wants to help connect Glossop’s creative community for the town to realise it’s huge potential as a cultural hub at the gateway to the Peaks.
