Dark Peak Books Celebrates Bookshop Day with Exclusive Event

October 11, 2023

Glossop author Matt Hill is taking part in an exclusive book signing on Saturday (14th October), to celebrate the publication of his new novel Lamb AND Bookshop Day.

Matt will be signing copies of Lamb in the much-loved Dark Peak Books and Gifts on High Street West. Anyone popping into the shop can also expect drinks, giveaways, free £5 book tokens and free limited edition tote bags for spends of £30 and over.

The event will be one of hundreds taking place at bookshops across the UK to mark the annual celebration of bookshops, big and small.

Writer Matt grew up in Mottram and Hyde and has lived and worked in Glossop since 2016.  Lamb, published by Liverpool's Dead Ink Books, is Matt's fifth novel - he's also the Philip K. Dick Award-nominated author of The Folded Man (2013), Graft (2016), Zero Bomb (2019) and The Breach (2020).

Most of Matt's stories are set in the near-future, and take place all over the north of England. (Zero Bomb and The Breach are actually set in a fictionalised mash-up of Glossop and Hadfield!) His work blends elements of crime, science fiction and horror.

Lamb tells the story of teenager Boyd Alport, whose lorry driver father carries out a deadly attack on his employer’s head office. In the aftermath, Boyd moves to the north and uncovers a startling secret about his past. A visceral story of collective memory and moss-coated horror, Lamb asks us how far we’d go to protect those we love, and how intensely we are bound to those who have come before us.

Launched in 2016, Bookshop Day 2023 takes place on Saturday 14 October. Booksellers, publishers, authors, illustrators and poets work collaboratively on the campaign to encourage consumers to shop in their local bookshop and ensure their high street is thriving. Bookshop Day is part of Books Are My Bag, a consumer-facing campaign run by the Booksellers Association to celebrate and promote bookshops in the UK and Ireland.

Dark Peak Books is a long-established independent book and gift shop which offers a carefully selected choice of brilliant books, with something for everyone. The beautiful store offers a friendly, welcoming environment to browse and a wide range of hand-picked gifts, games and greetings cards.

Dark Peak Books also runs a monthly book club at Harvey Leonard’s Wine & Ale Tasters, and holds regular events for both adults and children including book readings, poetry recitals and author signings.

Matt Hill’s novel signing event will take place on Saturday 14th October, 2pm - 4pm and the community is encouraged to pop along at any time.
