A new three year programme called Derbyshire Makes - which officially launches next month - is set to shine a spotlight on the industrial history, inspiring landscapes and local communities that make Derbyshire unique.
The programme of making-related events and activities begins with an annual free festival, from Friday 28th March to Sunday 27th April 2025. Spread across six Derbyshire town centres - including Glossop - there will be walks, talks, exhibitions, plus roving workshops AND a mass making project all about designing, making and showcasing textile-based creations – led by Alex Murphy, Derbyshire resident and recent contestant on the BBC’s The Great British Sewing Bee.
In the High Peak, the Glossop Hub is being led by High Peak Community Arts. The collective has established a steering group of local and county groups and services and are setting about planning their own programme to showcase the town.
The Hub will link to and enhance content from the countywide programme, animating the final two days (15th / 16th April) with new and existing creative work and activities for the public to take part in.
The next step for High Peak Community Arts is to recruit three artists, preferably from or with a connection to Glossop, to lead involvement with different local groups in creating work for the final two days.
Artists can find out more and apply here - www.highpeakarts.org/dmartist-call/. Glossop’s creative community can also sign up to receive news and alerts from Derbyshire Makes by signing up to the mailing list at /www.derbyshiremakes.co.uk/
