If 2020 and the rumbling uncertainty has left you feeling rather despondent when it comes to seasonal festivities, The Dark Peak Music Foundation is hosting an online event that may just improve your Christmas cheer and get you in the mood for the big day!
What is the Dark Peak Music Foundation?
The Dark Peak Music Foundation is a vibrant, innovative and ambitious music centre based in Glossop. It welcomes young musicians from the town and further afield.
The Foundation is committed to providing the best opportunities for young people to develop their interest in music and the lasting friendships that grow out of making music together.
The Christmas Streamers
To bring some festive cheer to Glossop and its residents, the Foundation is broadcasting a special Christmas concert live on Sunday 20th December at 4pm, via YouTube.
Called Christmas Streamers, the live event will feature a combination of performances that the Foundation has been able to record live in rehearsals, together with virtual recordings that they have put together over the periods in which they have been unable to meet face-to-face.
Performances will include Fairytale of New York - a whole music centre project featuring players from beginner to advanced level - and a plethora of fabulous sing-along Christmas Carols from all of the Foundation's ensembles.
Jeff Snowdon, Principal Musical Director at the Dark Peak Music Foundation, said: "It is possible that families will not be able to get together as easily this year for Christmas so we hope Christmas Streamers will be an event to bring everyone together for a special celebration with all these talented youngsters.
"During the second lockdown, we set everyone two tasks with the aim of doing something fun and rewarding, but without creating too much extra work for everyone. The main project was to record their part for a specially arranged version of Fairytale of New York using the guide-tracks provided. The result will be shown live on our Christmas Streamers show, and we really hope everyone enjoys it.
"We hope to "see " you all there, together with your families and friends for a festive sharing of our work during this term."
