GAP ART EXHIBITION - THIS WEEK!

October 23, 2023

Glossop Arts Project is showcasing its work in a new exhibition this Wednesday. GAP’s Clare Isherwood tells us more…

“This week, GAP will showcase the work from our Arts for Wellbeing sessions for young people and adults, including our Neurodivergent group, Arts ‘n’ MiNDs, in a one-off art exhibition.

“We will be exhibiting around 50 pieces of work in mixed-media, giving the public a chance to see what we do at the sessions, including participants’ friends and family members who may not see the fabulous work they produce.

“We believe that, not only is the artwork created beneficial, but to see each person's work on show and take pride in their creations as a collective and as a community  is invaluable. Additionally, many members do not see what the other groups at GAP get up to so it gives everyone a chance to see the work and meet up with peers.

“The exhibition is open to all on Wednesday 25th October 6-8pm at Victoria Hall, Glossop, so please do come along and support us and get a flavour of how we can help, maybe not just yourself but others around you who may be struggling.

“We are wanting to highlight our work, especially the work we do with young people suffering with vast mental health problems as we have recently been unsuccessful at securing future funding for our 11-18 year old provision and desperately need help to continue. We do lots of fundraising ourselves for GAP and as we are solely reliant on funding and don’t get any governmental help then any help we receive is always welcome.

“More than ever, and especially after COVID, we are constantly providing for our local community of Glossopdale within our provisions of creativity.

“You can help GAP by visiting our social media pages on Facebook and Instagram and sharing to highlight us.  There's a ‘Donate’ section at the top of our website for funding, sponsoring the work that we do, be it a project, a term, a year’s worth etc.

“If you’d like to come along to GAP, you don’t have to have any previous art experience; we have colouring books which are a wonderful way of switching thoughts off and focussing on something in a positive way. We learn about artists, try new techniques including painting, sculpture, jewellery making, graffiti, plus many more all at a level than anyone can have a go. Nobody judges, and we always have a brew and a biscuit on the go! We want people to feel included within something that is accessible, have a reason to get out and chat with others, and be there every week rather than for a limited time. We are currently also a free provision with a small fee towards refreshments.

“Check us out on www.glossopartsproject.org or email us on info@glossopartsproject.org and we’re always happy to chat about GAP or come and see what we do.”

The GAP art exhibition is open to all on Wednesday 25th October, 6-8pm at Victoria Hall, Glossop.
