If you love spooky history, murder mysteries and creepy curiosities, you could be in for a treat with a one-off curated walk around the beautiful Longdendale Valley - a landscape rich in folklore and strange sightings…
Once a major railway route connecting Manchester and Sheffield, the Longdendale Trail is now a haven for walkers, runners and cyclists. But beneath its peaceful, rural appearance lies a wealth of untold stories - from Roman salt routes and Victorian tunnels to the mysterious legends of the Devil’s Elbow and witch markings on old bridges.
On May 4th, spooky history hunters and folklore fanatics can join sound specialist and podcaster Clare Savory for a Wander Walk through the Longdendale Valley and along the trail to discover fascinating railway history, ancient pathways, submerged villages - and even spot some UFOs, as the area is a common one for sightings, mysteriously known as the “Longdendale Lights”.
Curated by Clare and Glossop Creates - an initiative which celebrates creativity and culture in the town and its surrounding villages - the 6km walk will take in:
Along the way, Clare will walk, talk - and sing - wanderers through Longdendale’s past and present, bringing to life the voices of those who shaped the landscape over many centuries.
The walk will start at 10am and will last around two hours. Find out more and book your spot here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/celebrating-the-longdendale-tales-wander-walk-with-clare-savory-tickets-1268523200039.
